Earthweek, running from Monday, March 23rd to Friday, March 27th this year, is an annual student-led, week-long event put on by the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences (SEES). The week will celebrate the research being done in the seven departments within SEES (School of Natural Resources, Arizona Institutes of Resilience, Environmental Science, Geosciences, Hydrology and Atmospheric Sciences, Laboratory of Tree Ring Research, and School of Geography and Development) and host a variety of other events celebrating the Earth and our relationships with it.
This year’s theme, Common Ground in a Shifting World: Interdisciplinary Research in Earth Science, highlights the critical role of interdisciplinary Earth science in bridging knowledge, guiding action, and shaping solutions that help both people and nature thrive.
As federal leadership on environmental issues retreats, scientists are stepping forward to lead. Across disciplines, researchers are uncovering the deep connections between Earth’s systems and the communities—human and ecological—that rely on them. Their work not only advances understanding of changing climates and ecosystems, but also informs policy, strengthens environmental governance, and drives evidence-based decision-making at every level. Through research showcases, discussions, and interactive events, we invite students, faculty, and the broader community to engage with scientists shaping the policies and strategies that sustain our shared environment in an era of uncertainty.
Along with department specific research showcases, we also have some cross departmental events, these are:
