Earthweek, running from Monday, March 23rd to Friday, March 27th this year, is an annual student-led, week-long event put on by the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences (SEES). The week will celebrate the research being done in the seven departments within SEES (School of Natural Resources, Arizona Institutes of Resilience, Environmental Science, Geosciences, Hydrology and Atmospheric Sciences, Laboratory of Tree Ring Research, and School of Geography and Development) and host a variety of other events celebrating the Earth and our relationships with it.
This year’s theme, Common Ground in a Shifting World: Interdisciplinary Research in Earth Science, highlights the critical role of interdisciplinary Earth science in bridging knowledge, guiding action, and shaping solutions that help both people and nature thrive.
As federal leadership on environmental issues retreats, scientists are stepping forward to lead. Across disciplines, researchers are uncovering the deep connections between Earth’s systems and the communities—human and ecological—that rely on them. Their work not only advances understanding of changing climates and ecosystems, but also informs policy, strengthens environmental governance, and drives evidence-based decision-making at every level.
Through research showcases, discussions, and interactive events, we invite students, faculty, and the broader community to engage with scientists shaping the policies and strategies that sustain our shared environment in an era of uncertainty. Here is our planned slate of events:
Pre-Earthweek Events:
Wednesday, March 18th from 6-8 pm. Volleyball Tournament (Cash Prize!),
Friday, March 20th at 5:30 pm, Environmental Movie Night, in the ENR2 Building, Room s107
The Plenary Conference (The Main Event)
Monday, March 23rd, starting at 9 AM in ENR2
We hope to see you at all of the amazing events planned for 2026!
Earthweek Events
El Día del Agua y la Atmósfera 2026
El Día 2026 will take place on March 24th from 8am to 6pm in the ENR2 Courtyard. El Día is an esteemed annual student research symposium celebrated every spring. We are excited to announce this year's El Dia theme: "Academia in Action: Bridging Science, Industry, and Policy".
ENViSion 2026
We are excited to invite you to ENViSion 2026, the Department of Environmental Science’s annual, student-led research symposium and a signature event of UArizona EarthWeek (March 23–27, 2026).
Join us on Thursday, March 26, at the Environment and Natural Resources 2 (ENR2) building for a day of live presentations, in-person poster sessions, and an engaging alumni and sponsor career panel. Both undergraduate and graduate students will share their research and compete for awards across multiple categories.
Geodaze 2026
GeoDaze, The University of Arizona Geosciences Symposium, is an entirely student-run conference organized by students in the Department of Geosciences at the University of Arizona. Now in its 54th year, it is an event that continues to provide graduate and undergraduate students with the opportunity to present their latest research to the community and to receive feedback from professionals in industry, government, and academia. This year, we are proud to present oral and poster presentations from Geosciences graduate and undergraduate students.
